FGB are a pharmaceutical company specialising in natural products – in particular eucalyptus oil. The successful growth of the business meant that development of the remaining vacant land on the existing industrial premises was needed, and FGB approached JDA Architects to design a major addition to the office and warehouse facilities to support ongoing expansion of the business.
The office was an addition to their 1960s factory building and was constructed at first floor over the existing car park, with a new double height entry foyer and reception that signposts it as a signature headquarters for the company.
A key element of the design brief was that the building should reflect the ‘natural’ philosophy of the business and products, by incorporating natural and recycled materials and sustainable elements into the design. It was designed specifically to reduce environmental impact and best utilise natural light. The use of natural and recycled timber that is noticeable throughout the interior and as an exterior facade treatment references the activities of FGB as Australia’s largest producer of eucalyptus oil and sets the building apart from the usual suburban offices lining the street.
